One of the newer seed companies, Serious have made a big impact with their limited catalogue of highly distinctive, connoisseur-level knockout buds. Although they offer only five strains, everyone of them has turned Amsterdam around. Cup winners one and all, here are some plants that are set to become legends (if they are not already.). There are few menus that do not feature at least one of Serious Seeds' strains. The five grass strains here are definately for the 'educated' smoker. Unlike many of the other seed companies, Serious do not have their own retail outlet, though their seeds are stocked by many headshops more or less worldwide.
Although all the strains described below were developed for indoor growing, Serious Seeds say that they have had good reports of outside growth with some strains.

INDOOR

WHITE RUSSIAN

White Russian is the newest of Serious Seeds
strains. It made its impact at the 1996 Cannabis
Cup when it took the main cup. It was a worthy
winner. A Sativa/Indica cross based on AK-47
and -- surprise, surprise -- White Widow, this
is a strain that fulfils all of its promise. Not only
does it produce fantastic looking buds that smell
delightful (even during the vegetative period) but it
also has a very big hit. Despite the Sativa influence,
this is Serious Seeds' most 'skunky' strain.
Therefore, expect dense and compact buds with
few leaves and lots of drippy resin.

Flowering period: 8 to 9 weeks.

KALI MIST

Another strain that has made a big impact -- certainly
on coffeeshop menus. Kali Mist is a real connoiss-
eur's bud that is almost totally Sativa. With a high
calyx-to-leaf ratio, lots of resin glands and a
distinctive high, this is a very worthwhile plant to
grow. Producing long spiralling tops that consist of
large fluffy buds, it is a fairly long flowering strain
but the wait should be well worth it.

Flowering period: 10 to 11 weeks.

BUBBLE GUM

Bubble Gum has become a popular smoke in
Amsterdam. Although it is a mainly Indica plant, it
has a good cerebral high that almost bubbles
through the brain. Originally developed in Indiana,
Bubble Gum strains have been grown in Holland
for many years and the plant has been stabilised
through many generations to produce consistant
and reliable crops. A characteristically Indica plant
with compact and heavy buds and broad leaves,
Bubble Gum has a particularly sweet smell and
a euphoric high.

Flowering period: 8 to 9 weeks.

CHRONIC

This is Serious Seeds most commercial strain.
Chronic is a plant that offers both high connoiss-
eurs quality and high yields. Possessing a powerful
and empowering high that is derived from the heavy
resin content of this mainly Indica plant, Chronic is
one of the two varieties that Serious Seeds say
respond well out of doors and recommend it for
balconies and other protected external growing
locations.

Flowering period: 8 to 10 weeks.

AK-47

A few years ago AK-47 was the talk of the town and
it has not yet fallen out of favour. Although it is a
mainly Sativa plant, AK-47 has a wonderfully short
flowering period, which makes it a good plant to
grow outdoors. And -- multi-prizewinner, that
it is -- produces fantastically hard and compact
buds that literally gleam with resin crystals.

Flowering period: 7 to 8 weeks weeks.
